TASK 1 (20 minutes, at least 150 words) The maps show the village of Hollow Bridge in 2000 and today. 2000 — North of the river: farmland and an old farmhouse. South of the river: a small shop, woodland in the west. A main road runs north to south across a road bridge. Today — North of the river: a housing estate (where the farmland was); the farmhouse is gone; a new primary school next to the main road, east of the houses. South of the river: the shop is now a supermarket with a car park; part of the woodland is now a park with a playground. A new footbridge crosses the river between the park and the housing estate. The river, the main road and the road bridge are unchanged. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. TASK 2 (40 minutes, at least 250 words) In many cities, young people find it increasingly difficult to afford a home. What are the causes of this problem? What measures could be taken to solve it? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
