Danh động từ và động từ nguyên mẫu (V-ing vs to V) — mở rộng
- V-ing làm CHỦ NGỮ: Travelling abroad is expensive.
- Giới từ + V-ing: interested in learning · instead of buying · by working · without asking
- It + be + tính từ + to V: It is important to protect local businesses.
- avoid / consider / suggest / admit / risk + V-ing · afford / refuse / manage / fail / tend + to V
- Đổi nghĩa: stop / remember / forget / try + V-ing vs + to V
Buổi 16 đã học nhóm cơ bản (enjoy + V-ing, want + to V). Buổi này mở rộng ba quy tắc chắc chắn: (1) V-ing làm chủ ngữ ở đầu câu; (2) sau MỌI giới từ (in, on, of, by, without, instead of…) là V-ing; (3) sau tính từ trong mẫu It is + adj là to V. Thêm một nhóm động từ đổi nghĩa: stop smoking (bỏ hút) ≠ stop to smoke (dừng lại để hút); remember locking (nhớ là đã khóa) ≠ remember to lock (nhớ phải khóa). Trong Reading summary, loại từ này quyết định từ điền.

- to trong look forward to, be used to (Buổi 28), when it comes to (Buổi 40) là GIỚI TỪ → + V-ing.
- Chủ ngữ V-ing đi với động từ số ít: Buying foreign goods IS popular.
- Nhóm hay bị sai: suggest + V-ing (không *suggest to do*), afford + to V (không *afford buying*).
