Câu chẻ tách một câu thành hai phần để làm nổi bật MỘT thông tin. 'Governments should fund research' → 'It is governments that should fund research' (nhấn mạnh ai phải làm) → 'What governments should fund is research' (nhấn mạnh làm gì). Trong Task 2, câu chẻ rất hữu ích ở câu luận điểm và câu kết: nó cho người đọc thấy ngay ý chính của bạn là gì. Dạng What … is … là mệnh đề danh từ đã học ở Buổi 54; động từ is/was chia theo phần sau thường là số ít.
